Answering your questions

What type of photography is the UnScene looking for?

The UnScene is looking for new talent, plain and simple. We don't define artists by amateur or professional status. We are looking to expose emerging artists and their work and help them market themselves. We are looking to tell new stories. We are looking for photography, not images that have been so digitally altered they are no longer photographs. Imaging tools are used to crop and enhance images - not create art that wasn't there from inception. Please keep that in mind when submitting work. We are looking for artists that have a collection or series of images that tell a story. It just can't be one great image - this is not a photo contest looking for that one special shot. We are reviewing portfolios and helping to mentor those individuals who have the eye to see beyond.

How do I become a finalist?

Just visit our Submission page and upload your portfolio.

What if I have multiple photographs that necessarily don't all go together?

The more you submit, the more we can judge. We require at least 20 images in the submission process to give our judges a good view into your artistic ability.

Who judges the UnScene?

We have a team of judges ranging from professional photographers to curators to interior designers and art writers.

What is the UnScene? Are you a gallery?

We are an intermediate gallery online, if you will. We are art facilitators that are sourcing talent and exposing them to galleries, museums and non-traditional art venues. The UnScene also offers its Mobile Tour in conjunction with the W Hotel where we go city to city looking for emerging photographers. For more on the UnScene Mobile Tour, visit here.

Do you sell the artists' work?

Yes, we will be selling the work of our artists through our parent company Wall Kandy. Some of our previous finalists have been invited to join Wall Kandy's catalogue where retailers, hotels and other companies work with Wall Kandy to hang original art on their walls from the UnScene's growing art base.

Do I own the photos I submit?

The artists always have exclusive rights to their images. The UnScene will never promote your images without your sole permission.

When will I find out if I am a winner?

If you are a finalists in any of our contests, we will email you details surrounding your finalists and position before we announce it on our site.
