UnScene Artists![]()
Kathleen Wilke
Winner - UnScene Dallas 2008
Since childhood I've always been into some kind of art, from painting, working with clay, film/video, and now of course digital photography.
After suffering from a serious stroke out of the blue last year, my artistic direction changed from children's portraiture to more of a fine art photography, something that came more from the heart. I guess the trauma effected the creative side of my brain, who knows! Now I want my photographs to tell a story, or just make the viewer stop and wonder.
About the Work
My "Lady of the Lake, an Urban Legend" series was perfect to submit to the Unscene Dallas competition. It was the luckiest thing to happen for me. I had already been working on the series and was a great local ghost story. Obsessed with photographing underwater, the way the reflections surprise you, the way the subject is suspended in water, fabric flowing, the girl drowning in a beautiful white gown was the perfect subject. I am still working on a few shots to wind up this series!
I am lucky, proud, and thankful to have won and been recognized by the judges of the Unscene competition. More doors will surely be opening for me now, to have my work shown in a gallery like the Decorazon is unbelievable!
